The short version: Regentro is free to read. When you buy something through one of our links, the brand pays us a commission. You pay the same price you would have paid going direct. It never affects what we recommend or how we rank it.

What an affiliate link is

Some of the links on this site — on the shop page, inside journal articles, in your quiz results, and in the free guide — are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, the retailer or brand pays us a percentage of the sale or a flat referral fee. Every one of those links routes through a regentro.com/go/ address so we can keep destinations current and see which recommendations are genuinely useful.

We participate in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. We also work directly, or through affiliate networks, with brands including Hims, Keeps, Nutrafol, Mielle Organics, Toppik, Boldify, iRestore and Bevel.

What it does not change

• We rank by evidence, not by commission. Minoxidil sits at the top of our treatment list because the clinical evidence puts it there — not because it pays the most. Some of the things we recommend most often, like a satin pillowcase or loosening your durag, earn us almost nothing.
• We tell you when something is not worth it. If the research on a product is thin, we say so, even when the program pays well.
• We do not accept payment for a good review. No brand can buy a placement, a rating, or a spot on a shelf.
• We do not hold inventory or handle your order. When you buy, you are buying from that brand or retailer. They handle payment, shipping, returns and support.

Why we chose this model

The alternative was selling our own products from day one, which would have meant recommending them whether or not they were the best answer for you. Being paid by the brands we point to — and being open about it — lets us recommend a $12 bottle of rosemary oil as readily as a $600 laser cap, and to tell you when the honest answer is “see a dermatologist, not a store.”

Hair loss has several causes that look similar and are treated very differently — one of them, CCCA, causes permanent scarring if it is left alone.
